Pastel de Papa

There are two things that we are hoping to learn whilst being in Argentina:
1. Spanish and 2. How to cook some traditional Argentinian food…

So, just imagine how pleased we were to combine the two and have a spanish lesson combined with a cookery lesson. Perfect! Pastel de papa is a bit like cottage pie, only with fancy bits in it like olives, eggs and raisins. And, if you’d like to know the finer details:

Step 1 – Find yourself some willing and eager cooking assistants.
Step 2 – Chop some onion and red pepper and peel some potatoes.
Step 3 – Boil the potatoes.
Step 4 – Cook the onion and pepper (with a little bit of oil) and add a bit of seasoning. Add the mince and stir.
Step 5 – Boil some eggs.
Step 6 – Mash the potato.
Step 7 – Add some chopped green olives, raisins and the boiled eggs (chopped) to the meat mixture.
Step 8 – Put a layer of mashed potato in the bottom of a casserole dish, then add the meat mixture. Put the rest of the mashed potato on the top and put into the oven.
Step 9 – When the top starts to brown, remove from the oven and serve it to your helpful cooking assistants.
Step 10 – Enjoy it (we did).

Thanks to Cecilia, our multi-tasking teacher of marvellousness.

  1. Wow! You have been busy again and its good to hear your news. We are glad you’re having a fab time.

We will be away at a friends wedding this weekend but just wanted to say happy 1st (that’s paper Rob) wedding anniversary – we can’t believe it has been a year already. Enjoy celebrating!

I am very jealous of your easy move – Punk and I have just moved into our own house (very exciting!) only we needed a big removal van which fortunately came with 3 very strapping men to load, unload and carry all the boxes and furniture! 🙂

    Lots of love

    Kathryn and Punk xxx
